Connection Through Art

Céline Ouellette, Deep River, ON

I grew up in Deep River, ON, a town of about 4200 people, along the Trans-Canada Highway, about halfway between Ottawa and North Bay, Ontario. When I moved back as an adult, my husband and I bought the home of a former artist and uncovered personal connections.
My daughter loves art. Together we decided to speak with 3 local artists, Olga Nazarkina, Susan Fraser, and Sheila McGregor about what connects them as artists to this place and community. For each one, their art was a way to connect to nature, and people - through community and human connection.

Céline Ouellette, has a Masters in Social Work. At heart, she is a gardener, writer and story listener. She has lived most of her life in Deep River, ON. For a small place, Deep River has a vibrant community of artists and makers. The exchange of ideas and connection to nature have been sources of connection and inspiration.
Arya Joynes has a passion for art, as both a calming and motivating force. She is influenced by local artists such as Olga Nazarkina and Sheila McGregor, whose work inspires her to follow her passion every single day.
