Big Joe Mufferaw

Jacob Racco & Coleman Brown, Ottawa/Gatineau, QC

Colman Brown and Jacob Racco have a disagreement about Stompin' Tom Connors' classic folk tune, "Big Joe Mufferaw." Colman argues it captures a local legend and reminds people of a forgotten gang war in Ottawa's history. Jacob hasn't heard about this, so the pair takes a trip to the Chaudiere Falls and bring in local historian James Powell to talk about the region's violent and corrupt past, Big Joe's legacy, and the transition from rough lumber town to peaceful nation's capital.

Jacob Racco and Colman Brown are the two longest serving members of Down to the Wire, an Ottawa based podcast network. Jacob is the creator of the network, which boasts three shows. Colman is Senior Producer of all three, and attends Carleton University's School of Journalism. Down to the Wire's mission is to curate compelling, humorous storytelling to engage a curious audience.
